Rosa Cortez
Las Vegas native Rosa Cortez was unanimously ratified as deputy city manager by the City Council Aug. 20, 2025. She was selected for her position by City Manager Mike Janssen. In her role, she will oversee multiple departments to be determined by the city manager, including the city’s $1.8 billion capital improvement project (CIP) fund.
Cortez came up through the ranks in the city’s Public Works Department, beginning as an engineering associate in 2002 and holding leadership positions including engineering project manager, parks maintenance manager and assistant city engineer. Since 2022, she has served as the city engineer and deputy Public Works director. The City Engineer division is responsible for planning, designing, and constructing the city’s public infrastructure.
Cortez has served as the city’s representative on the Regional Flood Control District’s Technical Advisory Board and the Stormwater Quality Management Committee.
